What is reseller hosting and who is it for?

Reseller hosting is a model in which you rent the resources of a server wholesale and sell them to your own clients as separate hosting accounts. You do not need to buy a server, manage licences or maintain hardware; in the WHM panel you create cPanel accounts for your clients, define your own packages and set your own prices.

Who uses reseller hosting?

How do you make money with reseller hosting?

You sell each cPanel account in your reseller plan at a price you set. In a 30-account plan, for example, just a few clients cover the cost of the plan and every additional account adds directly to your profit. You can raise the revenue per client further by bundling domain names, SSL, email and maintenance services.

Reseller hosting frequently asked questions

What is reseller hosting?
Reseller hosting lets you buy server resources wholesale and sell them to your own clients as separate cPanel accounts. You create accounts and packages in WHM and set your own prices; the server hardware, licences and maintenance stay with Hosting Server.

What is the difference between WHM and cPanel?
WHM (Web Host Manager) is the reseller control panel: you create, suspend and delete cPanel accounts, define packages and allocate resources there. cPanel is the panel where your client manages their own website, email, databases and files. Every reseller plan includes WHM access and as many cPanel accounts as the plan allows.

Will my clients see the Hosting Server name?
No. The service is white-label: the Hosting Server name does not appear in cPanel or WHM, you can use your own private nameservers (such as ns1.yourdomain.com) and upload your own logo to cPanel. You bill and support your clients under your own brand.

How do I set up private nameservers?
At your domain registrar, create child nameserver (glue / host) records for ns1 and ns2 pointing to the IP addresses we provide. Then let us know through a support ticket and we assign the nameservers to your WHM account; new cPanel accounts you create will use them.

Is the cPanel licence included in the price?
Yes. Licences for the number of cPanel accounts in your plan, plus LiteSpeed Enterprise, CloudLinux, Imunify360 and JetBackup, are included in the monthly price; there is no extra per-account licence fee. Prices are in USD excluding VAT, and on annual billing you pay for 10 months instead of 12.

What happens when I reach my account limit?
You can move up to a larger reseller plan. When you upgrade, your WHM account and your clients' accounts stay on the same server and only the account and disk limits increase, so the websites stay online. The price difference is calculated for the remaining part of the billing period.

Can you migrate my existing clients from another provider?
Yes. If you are coming from a provider that uses cPanel, we migrate your accounts with their files, databases and email free of charge. Your old service stays online during the migration; once you point the DNS, your clients move over without downtime.

Can I use billing software such as WHMCS?
Yes. With WHM API access, billing software such as WHMCS or Blesta can create and suspend cPanel accounts automatically when an order comes in. The billing software licence is not included in the reseller plan.

Who is responsible for my clients' content?
The reseller is responsible for the content and use of every cPanel account under the reseller account. Accounts that breach the terms of service (spam, malware, copyright infringement) may be suspended, so we recommend having a similar agreement with your own clients.

How soon is my reseller account activated?
Once your payment is confirmed, your WHM account is usually created the same business day and always within 24 hours, and the login details are sent by email. If you have requested a migration, we start as soon as the account is ready.
